Sunday Specials at the Maritime Market - 11/12
Good morning Fellow Islanders!
It's a 48 degrees on the front porch this morning, and a light breeze is
sweeping over the pre-dawn landscape - dark, with overcast skies, quiet,
and very peaceful. As the dawn breaks, look for cloudy skies to slowly
give way to sunshine this afternoon as we warm to the mid 60's, with light
northeasterly breezes, and a perfect day to hit the links or cast a few
lures into the surf (on the rising tide:). We'll cool to the mid 50's
overnight, with a slight chance of showers in the wee hours, possibly
lingering into the morning before clearing out tomorrow afternoon as the
sun reappears to warm us back to the mid 60's again. We'll see mid 60
highs throughout the coming week - possibly the 70's by the weekend, with
partly sunny skies and no rain in the forecast. Low tide will occur
around 8:15 this morning, and hight tide will peak at about 2:45 this
For Breakfast this morning - and each Sunday through the winter, we'll be
featuring a "brunch" line-up - keeping the breakfast items out through the
lunch hour. The cafe will close at 1pm on Sundays, and the Market will
close at 2pm on Sundays, so be sure to arrive early to gather your dinner
goodies for the evening :)
The next 3rd Monday Potluck Supper will take place tomorrow night from
6-8:30pm at the BHA. Bring an entree, side dish or dessert to share, along
with your favorite beverage. Bill Waddell will be sharing "Readings from
the 'Old Testament' a la Charles Laughton", so come for the performance or
the entire evening. Contact FA McLeod at firstname.lastname@example.org for more
Registrations for The Market's next Side Porch Oyster Roast are filling up
fast! The fun takes place on Saturday, Nov. 25, so go
to www.maritimemarketbhi.com/oyster-roast.aspx to reserve your seats.
We'll gather a little early - at 4pm, and the evening features an
incredible spread of Chef Marc's seafood goodness including steamed
oysters, steamed old bay shrimp, pulled pork barbecue, smoked whole
chickens, and a host of your favorite sides and other goodies. It's our
most popular Side Porch event of the year, and now with the full facilities
of our new Forest Pavilion, you'll enjoy a beautiful autumn evening by the
fire pits & tiki torches with your island friends and family. For
libations, we'll have beer & wine by the glass, or you can step into the
Market and pick up your favorite six-pack or bottle of wine and bring it
out to your table. Register early, as this event will sell out well before
Thanksgiving is less than two weeks away, and our Thanksgiving Order Forms

The community of Bald Head Islanders dug deep into their pockets recently,
donating over $20,000 for hurricane Harvey relief in Texas, and before we
could take a breath, two new monster storms - Irma and Maria - ripped the
hearts out of our favorite Carribean islands. Now (and with thanks to Dick
Johnston, Andrea Pitera and many other islanders), the BHI community is
once again reaching out to assist, in an "island to island" effort to help
our friends in the BVI's (British Virgin Islands). Island to Island is
raising money through a raffle of your favorite BHI activities & events,
and will send 100% of the proceeds from this to “BVI Community Support
to https://www.virgin.com/unite/bvi-community-support-appeal ). BVI
Community Support Appeal was created to raise money for the long term
reconstruction of the BVI's; and to fund, support and work with local
partners on the ground. They are a not-for-profit organization and their
entire overhead is subsidized by the Virgin Group and Richard Branson, so
100% of what we raise for them goes to help the islanders. Please join BHI
to help the BVIs by purchasing raffle tickets for the amazing donated
prizes below. The first prize winner gets to pick their prize from all the
prizes, second place gets to pick from all the remaining prizes and so on
with each winner until the last place winner takes home whatever prize
-raffle to see the current prizes and to purchase tickets. Entries for the
raffle close on November 23.
