Friday Specials at the Maritime Market - 11/10

Good morning Fellow Islanders!

It's 52 degrees on the front porch this morning, with overcast skies and a
cool breeze coming over the forest. The seas are quiet, with nary a hint
of surf, and the glow of twilight is just beginning to appear on the
eastern horizon. As the dawn breaks, look for mostly cloudy skies becoming
mostly clear & sunny by this afternoon, with a brisk northerly breeze and
temperatures climbing to the low 60's. We'll cool to the low 40's
overnight, and warm to the mid 50's tomorrow, with clear sunny skies and a
chilly north wind. We'll see the mid 60's again on Sunday, with partly
sunny skies, lighter breezes, and no rain in the forecast all weekend. Low
tide is upon us now. High tide will peak around 12:45 this afternoon, and
low tide returns at 7 this evening.

For Breakfast this morning, Chef Radar is in the kitchen and featuring a
hearty fried chicken waffle for just $6.95. For lunch today, Radar is
preparing a delicious fish & chips platter for just 8.95. You can order
all of our regular menu items at [1], and those items
will be ready by the time you arrive.

The next Friends of Music Concert wil take place at the Village Chapel
tonight at 7:30pm. The concert features Randy Sheets and Chuck Seipp - an
Organ and Trumpet Duo, and they'll be performing "Pictures At An
Exhibition", “Rhapsody in Blue" and an Armed Forces Medley in honor of the
Veterans Day Holiday. All are welcome and admission is free, thanks to the
generosity of the the members of the Friends of Music Society.

Young Claude is hosting a tailgate party this weekend at the Alabama/Auburn
game with one of our great retailers - Kinnucan's of Auburn (and about 20
other locations). If you're attending the big game, just look for the Bald
Head Blues tent somewhere near the stadium. Next week he'll be in Richmond
showing at the Bizzare Bazaar, and then he'll be back on the island for
Thanksgiving Weekend, hosting our huge Black Friday sale.

The next 3rd Monday Potluck Supper will take place next Monday, Nov. 13
from 6-8:30pm at the BHA. Bring an entree, side dish or dessert to share,
along with your favorite beverage. Bill Waddell will be sharing "Readings
from the 'Old Testament' a la Charles Laughton", so come for the
performance or the entire evening. Contact FA McLeod
at [2] for more information.

Registrations for The Market's next Side Porch Oyster Roast are filling up
fast! The fun takes place on Saturday, Nov. 25, so go
to [3] to reserve your seats.
The evening features an incredible spread of Chef Marc's seafood goodness
including steamed oysters, steamed old bay shrimp, pulled pork barbecue,
smoked whole chickens, and a host of your favorite sides and other
goodies. It's our most popular Side Porch event of the year, and now with
the full facilities of our new Forest Pavilion, you'll enjoy a beautiful
autumn evening by the fire pits & tiki torches with your island friends and
family. For libations, we'll have beer & wine by the glass, or you can
step into the Market and pick up your favorite six-pack or bottle of wine
and bring it out to your table. Register early, as this event will sell
out well before Thanksgiving week.

Thanksgiving is two weeks away, and our Thanksgiving Order Forms are now
posted - everything from the "whole shebang" - our premier Thanksgiving
Dinner, to individual fresh free range turkeys, hams, fresh oysters, and a
wide assortment of sides, pies, and much more. Oven space is limited, and
we sell out each year well before Thanksgiving week, so please order early
by clicking [4] The Market
will be open on Thanksgiving Day from 8am - Noon, and your orders will be
ready for pick-up by 11am.

If you're planning on Thanksgiving Dinner at one of our Clubs, the BHI Club
is already on a waiting list, and the Shoals Club has just a few seats
remaining for their Noon seating, with all other seatings sold out. Contact
the Shoals Club at 910-454-4850 or call the BHI Club at 910-457-7300 if you
want to add your name to the waiting list.

The "No Boundaries" artists colony is back on the island for their 20th
anniversary, and as usual, will be staying at Captain Charlie's Station for
the duration of their stay. You may see these talented artists painting
around the island during the next couple of weeks. All About Art will be
hosting an Open Studio next Tuesday, Nov. 14 at Captain Charlie's Station
from 2-5pm, so drop by and meet the artists, have a glass of wine, and
enjoy the incredible creative talents of this group.

The Island Retreat & Spa has several events taking place over Thanksgiving.
They're hosting a "Thankful, We Give Together" event with a Pop-Up for
India Hicks, with 20% of the proceeds benefitting NourishNC - a local
non-profit that helps feed needy children. During Thanksgiving Week, the
Spa is offering 60% off selected products. They're also offering $20 off a
Hot Stone Massage during the month of November :).

Christmas Tree Auction" on Saturday, Nov. 25 from 5-7pm at the BHI Club,
with light appetizers, sweets, and hot or cold beverages for all ages. If
you'd like to decorate a tree for sale at the auction, please drop by Old
Baldy and pick up a tabletop tree, and deliver your decorated masterpiece
by the 24th.

Shoals Club will be hosting their member's Holiday gathering on Saturday
evening, Nov. 25 from 6-9pm. The evening is free for members, and $20 for
guests, with a cash bar and live entertainment. Call Shoals Club at
910-454-4850 for reservations.

The community of Bald Head Islanders dug deep into their pockets recently,
donating over $20,000 for hurricane Harvey relief in Texas, and before we
could take a breath, two new monster storms - Irma and Maria - ripped the
hearts out of our favorite Carribean islands. Now (and with thanks to Dick
Johnston, Andrea Pitera and many other islanders), the BHI community is
once again reaching out to assist, in an "island to island" effort to help
our friends in the BVI's (British Virgin Islands). Island to Island is
raising money through a raffle of your favorite BHI activities & events,
and will send 100% of the proceeds from this to “BVI Community Support
Appeal.” (go
to [5] ). BVI
Community Support Appeal was created to raise money for the long term
reconstruction of the BVI's; and to fund, support and work with local
partners on the ground. They are a not-for-profit organization and their
entire overhead is subsidized by the Virgin Group and Richard Branson, so
100% of what we raise for them goes to help the islanders. Please join BHI
to help the BVIs by purchasing raffle tickets for the amazing donated
prizes below. The first prize winner gets to pick their prize from all the
prizes, second place gets to pick from all the remaining prizes and so on
with each winner until the last place winner takes home whatever prize
remains. Go
to [6]
-raffle to see the current prizes and to purchase tickets. Entries for the
raffle close on November 23.
