Sunday Specials at the Maritime Market - 5/14

Good morning Fellow Islanders!

It's a crisp 61 degrees on the front porch this morning, with the twilight
of dawn quickly washing away a sky full of stars, with the waning moon high
in the sky and a cool north breeze rustling the nearby palms. The seas are
calm, and the surf is quiet. We have a beautiful spring day ahead, with
clear sunny skies, moderate northerly breezes and temperatures reaching the
mid 70's. We'll cool to the mid 60's overnight, and warm to the low 80's
tomorrow, with sunny skies, moderate northerly breezes and no chance of
rain through at least Friday. High tide will peak around 10:45 this
morning, and low tide will occur at about 4:15 this afternoon.

Happy Mother's Day to all of the mom's! Call your favorite mom, or better
yet, treat her to breakfast at the Market this morning :) Chef Marc is
preparing a decadent crabmeat benedict, with layers of lump blue crab and
perfectly poached eggs nestled atop of two toasted english muffins, and
then drizzled with a light tangy hollandaise sauce - and served with a side
of fresh cut fruit for just $9.95. For lunch today, Marc is featuring a
chicken club wrap with sliced roasted chicken, applewood smoked bacon,
sliced ham, lettuce & fresh diced tomatoes, along with a side of our house
made chips for only $8.95. You can also order all of the regular menu
items at [1]w[2]ww.maritimetogo.com, and those items will be ready by the
time you arrive.

The Market's next "Side Porch Steamer" event takes place two weeks from
today! We'll gather at 5pm on the Forest Pavilion on Sunday evening, May
28, and registration is filling up fast. Seats are still available now,
but we'll likely sell out beforehand (we always do) so register now
at [3]http://maritimemarketbhi.com/side-porch-steamer.aspx. If you've
never been to one of our side porch events, you don't know what you're
missing :) For this event, we'll be steaming up a mess of mussels and
littleneck clams, served with two delicate & delicious broths, with crusty
bread, along with steamed old bay shrimp, barbecued chicken, and a load of
your favorite sides. Mark Daffer will be returning to serenade the crowd,
and we'll light up the tiki torches & fire pits as well :) Adults are
only $29.95 plus tax/gratuity, and children under 12 are only $14.95 plus
tax/gratuity. We'll also have beer & wine available by the glass, or you
can step inside the Market and grab your own bottle or six-pack.

The Friends of Music's annual Gala Cruise takes place next Saturday, May
20, and departs the marina at 5pm, with music by Mark Daffer & Mike
O'Donnell. There is no cost to attend (thanks to the generosity of many
donors & sponsors of the Friends of Music), but you're asked to bring your
favorite bottle of wine to share (bring the good stuff :) Reservations are
limited to the first 100 people, so to get on the list, please contact Jeff
Hobbs via email at [4]blkswnhall@aol.com.

The Bald Head island Fishing Rodeo returns next weekend, May 18-20, and
it's not too late to sign up. The Rodeo is a deep sea fishing event, and
boats will be heading out to the gulf stream (about 60 miles out) looking
for Mahi, wahoo, tuna, sailfish, and blue marlin. I've fished in the rodeo
several times and if you've never been deep sea fishing, it's a load of
fun. Prizes are substantial, and the multi-day tourney begins and ends at
the BHI Marina. You'll need a sea-worthy boat, and charters & captains are
available through many sources. For more information, please contact John
Munroe at 471-4005 or visit [5]www.bhirodeo.com.

On Saturday, May 27 (Memorial Weekend), the Market will host another
edition of our famous Nye's Cream Sandwich eating contest :) There are
only two age groups, and each group is limited to 25 attendees, so if you,
or someone you know would like to enter, you must register on-line and
agree to the rules by clicking
[6]http://www.maritimmarketbhi.com/nyes-cream-contest.aspx. The fun begins
promptly at 3pm at the new Forest Pavilion, so be sure to arrive early
enough to properly check in. Spectators are welcome!

seafood stations scattered across the entire Club property. You'll enjoy
everything from grilled oysters, shrimp & grits (with local goat cheese),
roasted pork shoulder, gumbo, seviche, shrimp satays, crab claws, ahi tuna,
and so much more. It's a great kick-off to the summer season, and
reservations are required. Adults are $60 plus tax & 20% gratuity, young
adults (13-20) are $35++, children 12 & under are $20++, and under 5 are

The Pirates are returning to Bald Head Island!! The Pirate Invasion takes
place the weekend of June 23-25, and the weekend is sponsored by many of
the island's businesses and homeowners, and coordinated by BHI Pirate
Invasion, Inc - an organization formed by Sandy Kades to faciliate bringing
the Pirates back to the island. For those who recall the Pirate invasions
of the past, this weekend will be very familiar, with a sea battle, sword
fights, ghost walks, a pancake breakfast, and special interactive and
educational events all weekend. Sandy is in need of volunteers to help
orchestrate the weekend and to help house the pirates! Also, donations are
greatly appreciated to help off-set the costs of travel & housing. Please
reach out to Sandy at sekades@aol.com.
