Friday Specials at the Maritime Market - 5/12


Good morning Fellow Islanders!

It's 70 degrees on the front porch this morning, and the waning moon is
dancing in and out of the pre-dawn cloud cover - casting a brilliant glow
from behind that outlines the clouds in a silvery veil. A light northerly
breeze is washing over the island - holding the seas still & quiet along
South Beach. As the dawn breaks, look for a partly sunny day, with
variable but light breezes and a high in the mid 70's. We'll drop to the
mid 60's overnight, as a bit of unsettled weather sneaks in, bringing a
decent chance of rain tomorrow. Skies will clear again on Sunday, with a
beautifully crisp day of abundant sunshine, light breezes, mild
temperatures and low humidity. High tide will peak around 9:30 this
morning, and low tide will occur at about 3:15 this afternoon.

For breakfast this morning, Chef Marc is preparing a hearty house-made
corned beef hash, topped with two eggs over easy and drizzled with a light
hollandaise sauce for only $6.95. For lunch today, Marc is preparing a
delicious Oyster Po boy - loaded with fried local oysters, and drizzled
with remoulade and served with crispy french fries for just $9.95. In
addition, Marc is featuring a superb appetizer portion of homemade conch
fritters for only $6.95. Friday's hot bar theme is "Seafood'"! You can

those items will be ready by the time you arrive.

We've blown through the first 15 cases of our Mother's Day wine deal, but
Kevin was able to secure a few more cases yesterday (the last of a tiny
production). Chateau Castel Des Maures is a superb "true" rose' from the
Cotes de Provence region of France, and a tiny vineyard (only 4 1/2 acres)
that produces outstanding rose's from a blend of 50% grenache and 50%
cinsault. The wine pairs perfectly with our local seafood, but can also
stand up to more challenging dishes (a salad with balsamic vinegar, for
example), and is best served chilled. It's a perfect beach wine, and at
$15.99, is a bargain for a true French rose'. It's even better when Kevin
scores a deal, so for a very limited time, you can add this to your island
stash for only $10.99/btl, and if you buy a full case, you'll save another
10% - bringing the per-bottle price down to $9.99. Stock up for the summer
season, and if you're off island at present, then reply to this email with
your phone number and I'll have Kevin call you for a CC number - we'll hold
the wine for you until you return to the island.

The Friends of Music's annual Gala Cruise takes place next Saturday, May
20, and departs the marina at 5pm, with music by Mark Daffer & Mike
O'Donnell. There is no cost to attend (thanks to the generosity of many
donors & sponsors of the Friends of Music), but you're asked to bring your
favorite bottle of wine to share (bring the good stuff :) Reservations are
limited to the first 100 people, so to get on the list, please contact Jeff

On Saturday, May 27 (Memorial Weekend), the Market will host another
edition of our famous Nye's Cream Sandwich eating contest :) There are
only two age groups, and each group is limited to 25 attendees, so if you,
or someone you know would like to enter, you must register on-line and
agree to the rules by clicking

promptly at 3pm at the new Forest Pavilion, so be sure to arrive early
enough to properly check in. Spectators are welcome!

The next BHI Artisans Show & Sale takes place on Saturday, may 27 from 10am
- 5pm at the Village Hall. Admission is free and open to the public. For

The Shoals Club is hosting their Memorial Weekend Coastal Feast Party on
Saturday, May 27, from 6-10pm, with live music by Port City Shakedown, and
seafood stations scattered across the entire Club property. You'll enjoy
everything from grilled oysters, shrimp & grits (with local goat cheese),
roasted pork shoulder, gumbo, seviche, shrimp satays, crab claws, ahi tuna,
and so much more. It's a great kick-off to the summer season, and
reservations are required. Adults are $60 plus tax & 20% gratuity, young
adults (13-20) are $35++, children 12 & under are $20++, and under 5 are

The Market will host its next "Side Porch Steamer" event on the Forest
Pavilion on Sunday evening, May 28, and registration is now open
at [5]http://maritimemarketbhi.com/side-porch-steamer.aspx. We'll be
steaming up a mess of mussels and littleneck clams, served with two
delicate & delicious broths, with crusty bread, along with steamed old bay
shrimp, barbecued chicken, and a load of your favorite sides. Mark Daffer
will be returning to serenade the crowd, and we'll light up the tiki
torches & fire pits as well :) Adults are only $29.95 plus tax/gratuity,
and children under 12 are only $14.95 plus tax/gratuity. We'll also have
beer & wine available by the glass, or you can step inside the Market and
grab your own bottle or six-pack. This event will sell out quickly, so
don't delay!

If you're into Quilting or want to learn more about this ancient art, the
Old Baldy Quilters will be holding several classes on varying techniques to
get you started. Classes on dyeing, whole cloth painting, surface design
and even a family quilting day will be held during Quilter's Week, May 10th

The Pirates are returning to Bald Head Island!! The Pirate Invasion takes
place the weekend of June 23-25, and the weekend is sponsored by many of
the island's businesses and homeowners, and coordinated by BHI Pirate
Invasion, Inc - an organization formed by Sandy Kades to faciliate bringing
the Pirates back to the island. For those who recall the Pirate invasions
of the past, this weekend will be very familiar, with a sea battle, sword
fights, ghost walks, a pancake breakfast, and special interactive and
educational events all weekend. Sandy is in need of volunteers to help
orchestrate the weekend and to help house the pirates! Also, donations are
greatly appreciated to help off-set the costs of travel & housing. Please
