Monday Specials at the Maritime Market - 5/8

Good morning Fellow Islanders!

It's 58 degrees on the front porch this morning, with calm breezes, flat
seas, and a quiet surf. The cardinals are up and singing away, as the
chorus joins in multi-part harmonies. As the dawn breaks, look for sunny
& clear skies, with light westerly breezes and a high of about 72. We'll
drop to the low 50's overnight, and warm to the upper 60's tomorrow, with
mostly sunny skies and a slight chance of showers creeping into the
forecast. The slight chance of showers then lingers through the rest of
the week as a more unsettled pattern moves in, with mostly sunny skies,
daytime highs in the mid 70's, and overnight lows in the low 70'. High
tide will peak soon - around 6:30 this morning. Low tide occur around
12:45 this afternoon, and high tide returns at about 7:15 this evening.

For breakfast this morning, Chef Marc is preparing a country-fried steak,
egg & cheese biscuit with a small cup of roasted potatoes on the side - and
all for only $6.95. For lunch today, Marc is preparing a teriyaki chicken
wrap with toasted sesame slaw and a side of our house made chips for only
$9.95. Monday's hot bar theme is "Asian"! You can also order all of the
regular menu items at [1]w[2], and those items will be
ready by the time you arrive.

Melissa and I rode our bikes up to the Harbor yesterday and stopped into
Mojo's for a bit of refreshment. Wow! It's the second time for me, and
Melissa's first at enjoying a perfectly cooked spicy shrimp dish with a
fried grit cake and an awesome cajun broth. I forget the actual name of
the dish, but if it's any indication of what's to come, we're all in for a
great season at Mojo's. Chef Chris landed on the island at Easter, and
his wife Ashley just joined him, having stayed behind in New Orleans to
wrap up the lose ends. They come as a team, with Chris in the kitchen and
Ashley out front, and I can't wait to head back and try something else.
Shoals Club also has a new Executive Chef this year. We've had only one
meal so far this season, but it was terrific, and we're looking forward to
more evenings on the veranda. The Bald Head Club has finally hired a new
chef, and I think he starts this coming week or weekend - and he can't
start soon enough. I'm told that the individual they've hired is fabulous.
In fact, they've been trying to hire this same chef since 2010, and he's
finally on board now. And at the Market - we're thrilled about Chef Marc,
and he's doing a great job, having also been baptized by the fire during
Easter week :) He comes with a partner - Esther - and you'll see her up
front taking care of our customers in the Cafe. As owners and customers,
our standards and our expectations are high. When we acquired the Market
back in 2011, one of our early dreams was to see the island become a
"culinary destination", and we committed to doing our part. We're very
excited about what we're seeing from the other culinary establishments on
the island, and we want to encourage all islanders to jump back into the
water and give 'em an opportunity to show their stuff. You will not be

The next Howl at the Moon Sunset/Moonrise Beach Party takes place this
coming Wednesday, and is sponsored by Bald Head Island Limited Real Estate
Sales! We'll gather as usual at beach access 39, from 7-9pm, with the
ancient melodies of our bagpiper, and the warmth of the bonfire. Chef Marc
will be bringing a huge pot of seafood gumbo :) BYOB and bring an
appetizer to share. The sun will set at 8:02pm, preceded by the full moon
rising from the Atlantic at 7:54pm.

Also this coming week, if you're into Quilting or want to learn more about
this ancient art, the Old Baldy Quilters will be holding several classes on
varying techniques to get you started. Classes on dyeing, whole cloth
painting, surface design and even a family quilting day will be held during
Quilter's Week, May 10th - 13th. To learn more and to register for the
classes, [3]visit the OBF web site.

The Shoals Club is hosting their Memorial Weekend Coastal Feast Party on
Saturday, May 27, from 6-10pm, with live music by Port City Shakedown, and
seafood stations scattered across the entire Club property. You'll enjoy
everything from grilled oysters, shrimp & grits (with local goat cheese),
roasted pork shoulder, gumbo, seviche, shrimp satays, crab claws, ahi tuna,
and so much more. It's a great kick-off to the summer season, and
reservations are required. Adults are $60 plus tax & 20% gratuity, young
adults (13-20) are $35++, children 12 & under are $20++, and under 5 are
free. Call the Shoals Club at 910-454-4850.

The Market will host its next "Side Porch Steamer" event on Sunday evening,
May 28, and as daily email subscribers, you have first dibs on claiming
your seats, so register now
at [4] Our weekly

mess of mussels and littleneck clams, served with two delicate & delicious
broths, with crusty bread, along with steamed old bay shrimp, barbecued
chicken, and a load of your favorite sides. Mark Daffer will be returning
to serenade the crowd, and we'll light up the tiki torches & fire pits as
well :) Adults are only $29.95 plus tax/gratuity, and children under 12
are only $14.95 plus tax/gratuity. We'll also have beer & wine available
by the glass, or you can step inside the Market and grab your own bottle or
