Thursday Specials at the Maritime Market - 4/20

Good Morning Fellow Islanders!

It's 66 degrees on the front porch this morning, with dead calm winds and a
starlit sky. The dim crescent moon is rising in the eastern sky, amidst
flat seas and a quiet surf. As the dawn breaks, look for a mostly sunny
day, with light southerly breezes and highs in the low 70's. We'll cool
slightly to the upper 60's overnight, and warm to the mid 70's tomorrow
under sunny skies and moderate southwesterly breezes. Ditto for Saturday.
Sunday looks to be a bit more overcast, with a slight chance of showers
late in the afternoon. Low tide will occur at 9 this morning, and high
tide will peak at about 3:15 this afternoon.

For breakfast this morning, Chef Marc is preparing a carnitas omelette,
with pulled pork and cheddar cheese, then garnished with salsa & sour cream
and served with a side of roasted potatoes for only $7.95. For lunch
today, Marc is presenting our famous taco salad with all the trimmings for
just $9.95. Thursday's hot bar theme is "Mexican'"! You can also order
all of our regular menu items at [1]w[2], and those
items will be ready by the time you arrive.

We're modifying our operating hours for the remainder of April, and will
now be open until 8pm on Friday & Saturday evenings. We'll be serving
dinner in the Cafe, or you can enjoy light appetizers and cocktails by the
firepits of the Forest Pavilion.

The Shoals Club will host their first wine dinner of the season this coming
Friday, featuring six fabulous wines of La Crema Winery (Pinot Gris, two
Chardonnay's, and three Pinot Noir's) expertly paired by the Shoals Club's
culinary team. The fun begins at 6pm, and the cost is $100++/person. For
reservations, call the Shoals Club at 910-454-4850.

Also this Friday, The next Friends of Music concert will take place at
7:30pm at The Village Chapel. The featured work will be the silent film
“The Hunchback of Notre Dame”, accompanied by organist by Michael Britt.
This was a great success last year and “hunchback” promises to be another
winner. The program is open to the public and free of charge, thanks to the
many generous contributions from our members.

The Village Chapel is looking to hire an intern for the summer. If you
know someone who could benefit from the experience of a paid summer
internship (15-20 hours/wk), please have them send a resume to

This coming Saturday at 10am, Chad Paul, CEO of Bald Head Island Limited,
will host a public meeting to discuss the legislation regading the proposed
Ferry Transportation Authority described in Senate Bill 391. The meeting
will be held at the BHA, and is open to all islanders. BHI Limited is
planning to host similar meetings in the Triangle area and in Charlotte.
If you would like to attend one of these off-island meetings, please

Join us on the Side Porch Saturday afternoon for a very special Wine

pricing for those wishing to stock up on a few bottles. The fun takes
place from 1-3pm.

The next Community Pot Luck Supper will take place on Monday, April 24 at

throughout the weekend. The event is hosted in partnership with the Halo

100% of donations go toward the cost of hosting this event and supporting
the families. I'll post the full schedule of activities as the date
approaches, but donations are needed now to help fund the weekend. Please

The Pirates are returning to Bald Head Island!! The Pirate Invasion takes
place the weekend of June 23-25, and the weekend is sponsored by many of
the island's businesses and homeowners, and coordinated by BHI Pirate
Invasion, Inc - an organization formed by Sandy Kades to faciliate bringing
the Pirates back to the island. For those who recall the Pirate invasions
of the past, this weekend will be very familiar, with a sea battle, sword
fights, ghost walks, a pancake breakfast, and special interactive and
educational events all weekend. Sandy is in need of volunteers to help
orchestrate the weekend and to help house the pirates! Also, donations are
greatly appreciated to help off-set the costs of travel & housing. Please
