Sunday Specials at the Maritime Market - 4/16

Happy Easter Fellow Islanders!

It's 67 degrees on the front porch this morning, with a moonlit sky, a hint
of breeze, and calm seas producing a light surf. As the dawn breaks, look
for a mostly sunny day, with moderate southwesterly breezes and highs in
the mid 70's. We'll drop to the mid 60's overnight, and warm to the low
70's tomorrow, with mostly sunny skies and moderate southwesterly breezes.
Low tide is upon us now. High tide will peak around Noon, and low tide
returns at about 5:15 this afternoon.

The Village Chapel will host an Easter Sunrise Service at 6:45am this
morning on the grounds of the Old Baldy Lighthouse, with additional Easter
Services at 8:30am and at 10am. All are invited.

For breakfast this morning, Chef Marc is featuring a generous slice of our
decadent crab & boursin quiche, along with a side of fresh cut fruit for
only $6.95. With our early closing today, we'll be keeping the breakfast
menu open through about Noon. You can also order all of our regular menu
items at [1]w[2], and those items will be ready by the
time you arrive.

The Market will close at 1pm this afternoon so our staff can enjoy this
sacred holiday with their families. Be sure to arrive early to gather any
last-minute goodies you'll need for your Easter Dinner tonight. We'll
return to our normal spring hours tomorrow - open from 8am - 7pm daily
through the end of April.

Many kudos to Chef Marc, Chef Radar and the entire culinary staff for
pulling off the largest Oyster Roast we've ever hosted (so far :). Over
400 islanders enjoyed a bountiful spread of steamed oysters, shrimp, and
lobster, along with smoked pork barbecue, beans, and so much more. The new
Forest Pavilion accommodated everyone quite comfortably, and the glow of
the Tiki torches illuminated a beautiful forest setting puncuated by the
music of Mark Daffer. If you missed the fun, we'll be hosting the next
Side Porch Oyster Roast on Sunday evening, May 28. We'll post registration
& menu details by the end of April.

Grayson Murray shot even par yesterday. Overall, he's 2 under (tied for
53rd) and 11 shots off the lead - currently held by Jason Dufner. Final
round action takes place today at the PGA Tour's RBC Heritiage Classic at
Harbor Town in Hilton Head, and you can catch all of the action on your
local CBS affiliate this afternoon from 3-6pm. You can't miss him - he'll
be wearing our performance polos from Bald Head Blues :)

Both the BHI Club and the Shoals Club are sold out for Easter Brunch. If
you'd like to be on the waiting list at either venue, please call the BHI
Club at 910-457-7300 or call the Shoals Club at 910-454-4850.

Next weekend, Shoals Club will host their first wine dinner of the season,
featuring six fabulous wines of La Crema Winery (Pinot Gris, two
Chardonnay's, and three Pinot Noir's) expertly paired by the Shoals Club's
culinary team. The fun takes place on Friday, April 21 beginning at 6pm,
and the cost is $100++/person. For reservations, call the Shoals Club at

Also on Friday, April 21, The next Friends of Music concert will take place
at 7:30pm at The Village Chapel. The featured work will be the silent film
“The Hunchback of Notre Dame”, accompanied by organist by Michael Britt.
This was a great success last year and “hunchback” promises to be another
winner. The program is open to the public and free of charge, thanks to the
many generous contributions from our members.

The 10th Anniversary of BHI's Wounded Warrior Family weekend will take
place from April 27 - May 1. The island community will host five Purple
Heart recipients and their families & caregivers, with activities
throughout the weekend. The event is hosted in partnership with the Halo
for Freedom Warrior Foundation (a 501-C-3 non-profit organization), and
100% of donations go toward the cost of hosting this event and supporting
the families. I'll post the full schedule of activities as the date
approaches, but donations are needed now to help fund the weekend. Please
make checks payable to Halo for Freedom Foundation, and please write "BHI
Weekend" in the Memo field. Then, please mail or drop your check to the
Bald Head Association, PO Box 3030, Bald Head Island, NC 28461.

The Pirates are returning to Bald Head Island!! The Pirate Invasion takes
place the weekend of June 23-25, and the weekend is sponsored by many of
the island's businesses and homeowners, and coordinated by BHI Pirate
Invasion, Inc - an organization formed by Sandy Kades to faciliate bringing
the Pirates back to the island. For those who recall the Pirate invasions
of the past, this weekend will be very familiar, with a sea battle, sword
fights, ghost walks, a pancake breakfast, and special interactive and
educational events all weekend. Sandy is in need of volunteers to help
orchestrate the weekend and to help house the pirates! Also, donations are
greatly appreciated to help off-set the costs of travel & housing. Please
reach out to Sandy at
