Weekly Specials at the Maritime Market - 4/12

Good Morning Fellow Islanders!

It's 61 degrees on the front porch this morning, and the pre-dawn air is
heavy, fragrant, and full of birdsongs. The full moon continues to
illuminate the dunes - this morning through a thin band of high wispy
clouds, while the twilight of dawn is beginning to glow in the eastern sky.
We'll see a mostly sunny day ahead, with light southerly breezes and a
high in the low 70's. We'll cool to the upper 50's tonight, and return to
near 70 tomorrow, with partly sunny skies and a slight chance of an
afternoon shower. For Friday and through the weekend, expect mostly sunny
skies with light breezes and daytime highs around 70, with no rain in the
forecast. High tide will peak at about 9:15 this morning, and low tide
will occur around 3:15 this afternoon.

For breakfast this morning, Chef Marc is preparing a hearty western
omelette filled with diced ham, peppers & onions, and serving with a side
of our creamy stone ground grits for only $5.95. For Lunch today, Marc is
featuring a homemade meatloaf sandwich with a side of crispy french fries
for only $9.95. Wednesday's hot bar theme is "home cookin"! You can also
order all of our regular menu items at [1]w[2], and
those items will be ready by the time you arrive.

We had a terrific Howl party last night - truly one for the ages.
Everything came together so well - the weather, the ancient melodies of
the bagpipes, the Nantucket Chowda, and the throngs of families and kids
taking it all in was a sight to behold. Many thanks to Josie Moll, Chef
Marc and the staff for their efforts, and thanks to all who brought their
favorite appetizers to share (if you're missing a platter or piece of
tupperware, drop by the Market :) The next Howl at the Moon
Sunset/Moonrise Party takes place on Wednesday, May 10, and is sponsored by
Bald Head Island Limited Real Estate Sales.

If all goes as planned, we'll be opening the Ice Cream window later today,
and we'll begin serving cocktails on the new Forest Pavilion as well! Our
tiki torches and fire pits are being installed this week, and hopefully
operational by tomorrow.

The Market is open until 7pm tonight, and we'll extend our hours until 8pm
on Thursday, Friday & Saturday. We'll close EARLY on Easter Sunday - at
1pm, so our staff can enjoy this sacred holiday with their families.

The Village Chapel's Maundy Thursday Service will take place at 4pm
tomorrow at the Chapel, and all are invited to attend.

The Conservancy's next Turtle Trot takes place this Saturday. Registration
begins at 8:30am, and the race begins at 9am. Meet at Turtle Central, or
you can register on-line at

The next Island-wide Litter Sweep will take place on Saturday morning at
10am. Meet at the Fire Station on Edward Teach Wynd to pick up gloves,
trash bags and grabbers. There are prizes for the most unusual piece of
trash found, and kids can earn Community Service Credits.

The BHI Artisans Show & Sale happens all day on Saturday from 10am - 5pm.
For more information, please contact Sally Klippel at or call her at 404-692-8652.

Our friends at Island Passage are hosting a Season Kick-off Cookout on
Saturday from Noon-3pm, with food, drink, and music by Dave's Not Home.

Old Baldy's 200th Birthday Party will take place on Saturday from 2-4pm,
and features free climbs to the top of Old Baldy, plus an Easter Egg hunt,
a huge birthday cake, a flag dedication, and VIP presentations. The event
is free and open to the public.

We're now on a waiting list for our upcoming Side Porch Oyster Roast! If
you're not holding a confirmed reservation, you can add your name to the
waiting list at [3] The fun
takes place on Saturday beginning at 5pm, and this will be our inaugural
event at the new Forest Pavilion! The event features the music of Mark
Daffer, along with an incredible bounty of fresh steamed oysters, steamed
Old Bay shrimp, freshly smoked pork barbecue, and a plethora of sides.
We'll have beer & wine available by the glass ($4/$6) or you can slip into
the Market and pick up your own bottle or six-pack and bring it to your
table. Adults are only $29.95 plus tax/gratuity, and children (under 12)
are only $14.95 plus tax/gratuity. But wait - there's more :) You can also
add a 1 1/2 lb. live Maine Lobster for only $18. Our Side Porch events are
legendary, and if you haven't experienced one yet, just ask those who have.

On Easter Sunday, The Village Chapel will host an Easter Sunrise Service at
6:45am on the grounds of the Old Baldy Lighthouse, with additional Easter
Services at 8:30am and at 10am. All are invited.

throughout the weekend. The event is hosted in partnership with the Halo
for Freedom Warrior Foundation (a 501-C-3 non-profit organization), and
100% of donations go toward the cost of hosting this event and supporting
the families. I'll post the full schedule of activities as the date
approaches, but donations are needed now to help fund the weekend. Please
make checks payable to Halo for Freedom Foundation, and please write "BHI
Weekend" in the Memo field. Then, please mail or drop your check to the

The Pirates are returning to Bald Head Island!! The Pirate Invasion takes
place the weekend of June 23-25, and the weekend is sponsored by many of
the island's businesses and homeowners, and coordinated by BHI Pirate
Invasion, Inc - an organization formed by Sandy Kades to faciliate bringing
the Pirates back to the island. For those who recall the Pirate invasions
of the past, this weekend will be very familiar, with a sea battle, sword
fights, ghost walks, a pancake breakfast, and special interactive and
educational events all weekend. Sandy is in need of volunteers to help
orchestrate the weekend and to help house the pirates! Also, donations are
greatly appreciated to help off-set the costs of travel & housing. Please
