Weekly Specials at the Maritime Market - 4/25

Good Morning Fellow Islanders! It's 62 degrees on the front porch this morning, and the pre-dawn skies are clear, with the fading stars overwhelmed by the coming dawn, and a chorus of birdsongs mingling with the sounds of the South Beach surf. Yesterday's rains have indeed filled the lagoons, and the island's vegetation is bursting with new color & vigor. Today we'll see sunny skies and moderate southwesterly breezes, with highs inching to the upper 60's. The wind will lay down overnight as temperatures cool to the low 60's, and we'll warm to the upper 60's again tomorrow, with mostly sunny skies and variable breezes. We could see a brief shower after dark tomorrow, but Friday looks to be mostly sunny, with daytime highs near 70. For the weekend - much the same, with mostly sunny skies, light southerly breezes and highs near 70. Low tide will occur around 10:45 this morning, and high tide will peak at about 5 this afternoon. For breakfast this morning, Chef Marc is preparing a wonderful French toast with biased-cut baguettes dredged in an egg custard, then grilled and smothered with fresh local blueberries and served with our crisp applewood smoked bacon for just $7.95. For lunch today, Marc is featuring Korean-style pork medallions, with snow peas over sticky rice for only $9.95, or enjoy a traditional Chinese lemon chicken over soba noodles with stir-fried veggies - also just $9.95. Order any of our regular menu items on-line at [1]www.maritimetogo.com and your order will be ready when you arrive. Registration is now open for our upcoming Mother’s Weekend Wine Dinner – taking place on Friday, May 11 beginning at 6pm. The Forest Pavilion will be transformed into an elegant “garden party” motif, featuring a selection of classic wines from California – befitting the culinary experience you may find when dining al fresco in one of the famed vineyards in Napa or Sonoma. Our theme will celebrate “mother Earth’s” freshest and finest from the farm to the sea. Cost is $125/person, plus tax & gratuity, and our full menu and pairings were blasted out this past Monday - just look in your in-boxes for "Special Announcement" in the subject line. Register on-line at [2]www.maritimetogo.com, and look for the “wine dinner” link on the bottom left bar of the website. Tuesday Specials at the Maritime Market - 4/24

Good Morning Fellow Islanders! It's 64 degrees on the front porch this morning, and the pre-dawn skies have opened their hydrants - pouring forth a relentless deluge to our parched island - nourishing our forests, filling our lagoons, and soothing our souls with an early morning slumber of open windows and heavy spring air rushing in. The glow of dawn is weak amidst the heavy cloud cover, with low rumbles of thunder and a brisk easterly wind rustling the nearby palms. Showers will continue through the morning hours, becoming more spotty this afternoon as temperatures push toward the 70's. We could see a glimpse of the sun before dusk, and our skies will clear overnight, revealing a beautiful spring day tomorrow, with mostly sunny skies, moderate southwesterly breezes and highs near 70. Ditto for the remainder of the week and through the coming weekend, with light and variable breezes and no rain in the forecast. Low tide will occur around 9:45 this morning, and high tide will peak at about 4 this afternoon. For breakfast this morning, Chef Marc is preparing a delicious toasted bagel layered with smoked salmon, cream cheese, capers & onions for just $7.95. For lunch today, Marc is featuring a traditional spaghetti & meatballs, with a side of garlic bread for only $8.95, or enjoy a creamy shrimp & pesto tortelini with seasonal veggies for just $10.95. Monday Specials at the Maritime Market - 4/23

Fellow Islanders, Registration is now open for our upcoming Mother’s Weekend Wine Dinner – taking place on Friday, May 11 beginning at 6pm. You’ll be overwhelmed by the selections and the artistry of the dishes prepared by Chef Marc and his culinary team, and each station will feature a unique wine perfectly paired with the flavors featured at each station. We’ll gather promptly at 6pm, and you’ll be greeted with a flute of the fabulous sparkling Rose’ from Domaine Carneros, along with an array of passed appetizers including chicken vol-au-vent, stuffed grape tomatoes with goat cheese & pesto, tuna tataki (poke) spoons, and foie gras mousse w/truffle. We’ll then find our seats and begin embarking on our culinary journey. At the first station, you’ll choose from an all vegetarian selection that includes chilled Andalusian Gazpacho, along with an assortment of spring salads including caprese, quinoa, and tabbouleh, along with a colorful crostini assortment and crudité cups. Our first station’s selections are paired with the magnificent Joseph Phelps Napa Sauvignon Blanc from the 2016 vintage. We’ll dive head-first into the sea at our second station, where you’ll savor an authentic Charleston She-Crab soup, along with shrimp cocktail shooters, jumbo lump crab & heirloom tomato salad cups, seared tuna skewers, scallop ceviche shooters, and a fabulous poached whole salmon with your choice of exquisite sauces - including watercress, beurre blanc, lemon caper herb, or dilled yogurt. We’ll be presenting this taste of the sea with the luscious 2014 Ramey “Ritchie Vineyard” Chardonnay from the Russian River Valley in Sonoma, and a Wine Advocate (Robert Parker) 95 point superstar. We’ll transition to the farm as we make our way to our carving stations, featuring the delectable hand-carved medallions of duck breast, along with slices of whole roasted tenderloins of succulent USDA Prime beef – each of which pairs perfectly with the elegant 2014 Patz & Hall Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir from the famed Gap’s Crown Vineyard, and another 95-point gem. At any time during your culinary journey, you'll also sample from our fresh garden station that features a creamy potato gratin, grilled asparagus, ratatouille, tomato Provençale, and haricot verts. At our dessert station, you’ll sip a sublime 2011 Far Niente Dolce late harvest as you ponder your choice of lemon bars, fresh local strawberries over shortcake with Amaretto whipped cream, chocolate pecan bars, chocolate mousse cups, coconut cream pie and crème brulee. But wait, there’s even more :) We’ll wrap up the evening with snifters of your choice of either Grand Marnier or Dom B&B by the fire pits. And – as is our tradition, we will be drawing names and giving away a bottle of each of our featured wines/sprits from the event. We take great pride in presenting rare, unique, and cellar-worthy wines at our events, while showing off the talents of our culinary team as they create and present a memorable experience for our patrons - and all at a price that delivers incredible value. For this event, the wines and spirits alone would cost well over $500, but you’ll enjoy generous pours of these fabulous wines, along with the bounty of Chef Marc’s culinary masterpieces for only $125/person, plus tax/gratuity. You'll pay a non-refundable deposit of $25/person when you register, and we'll settle up the remaining charges at the event. To register, go to [1]www.maritimetogo.com and look for the “wine dinner” link on the bottom left bar of the website. When prompted, choose "dine-in" and "advance order", and complete the remaining with your credit card. Chef Marc Berruet comes from a family of chefs, having grown up in the culinary business on the island of Nantucket, where his parents owned and operated the Chanticleer Restaurant. Marc was trained in Paris at L’ecole Le Notre in Versailles, and at the Escoffier Foundation in Paris, and apprenticed at Le Lion d’Or in Ingrandes, along with the Michelin 3-Star Barrier Restaurant in Tours. After additional stints at LeToit de Passy in Paris and the Hotel Napoleon in Paris, he returned home to continue his culinary career. We’re fortunate to have him lead our culinary staff, and he relishes any opportunity to show off his talents – whether through our daily specials, our custom catering events or with magnificent wine dinners such as this. We look forward to sharing a wonderful evening together on our little island paradise! Monday Specials at the Maritime Market - 4/23

Good Morning Fellow Islanders! It's 63 degrees on the front porch this morning, and the pre-dawn skies are somewhat overcast, with a lone star peeking through a break in the clouds, and a slight breeze barely moving the cedar branches nearby. The sounds of the South Beach surf are mingling with the full chorus of birdsongs as the glow of dawn begins appearing on the eastern horizon. We have a couple of rainy & blustery days ahead, as a system moves in from the southwest, bringing up to four inches of rain, along with strong winds gusting to near 40mph later this evening. The first showers could arrive before 7 this morning, as the radar shows a mass just passing Myrtle Beach now. Showers will be intermittent through the day, but becoming more steady tonight and settling in through tomorrow afternoon, before tapering off tomorrow night, with a chance of a thunderstorm thrown in as good measure. Temperatures will hold steady in the low 60's through Wednesday morning, before warming to near 70 as the sun returns. We'll then see beautiful spring-like weather through the coming weekend, with daytime highs in the low 70's and plenty of sunshine. Low tide will occur around 8:45 this morning, and high tide will peak at about 3 this afternoon. For breakfast this morning, Chef Radar is in the kitchen and preparing a delicious veggie omelette with a side of fresh cut fruit for only $7.95. Saturday Specials at the Maritime Market - 4/21

Good Morning Fellow Islanders! It's 58 degrees on the front porch this morning, and as the days grow longer, the dawn is breaking earlier - revealing hues of deep purple, red, and orange amidst calm winds, flat seas and a chorus of birdsongs. Gone are the blustery winds earlier this week - wreaking havoc on the drives and approach shots - replaced now with a soothing and warm embrace of a spring yet to fully sprung. Today we'll see sunny skies and light northeasterly breezes becoming a bit more robust this afternoon, and keeping temperatures around 60 through the day. We'll cool to the low 50's overnight, and warm to the mid 60's tomorrow under mostly sunny skies with moderate easterly winds. Clouds and winds will increase around dusk tomorrow, with rain developing in the wee hours, and scattered showers and blustery winds persisting through Tuesday. Spring-like weather returns on Wednesday, with sunny skies and daytime highs in the 70's through Friday. Low tide will occur soon - around 6:45 this morning. High tide will peak at about 1 this afternoon, and low tide returns around 6:45 this evening. For breakfast this morning, Chef Marc is preparing a hearty corn bread waffle, topped with sausage gravy and a side of our crisp applewood smoked bacon for only $7.95. For lunch, it's pizza day, featuring a classic white pizza with ricotta, mozzarella, garlic & herbs, along with a babecue chicken & veggie pizza and much more - each just $3.50/slice. Order any of our regular menu items on-line at [1]www.maritimetogo.com and your order will be ready when you arrive. The annual BHI Warrior Weekend is now in full swing, with the warriors and their families enjoying a fun-filled day at the BHI Club's Community dinner yesterday. Thanks to all who participated, and thanks again for your continued support of this effort - lead by John Fisher and the Bald Head Island Club's staff, along with the resources of the Halo for Freedom foundation. You may run into our hero families around the island this week. Introduce yourselves and thank them and their families for their sacrifices, and please continue to fly your flags :). If you'd like to offer your additional support, please consider making a tax-deductible donation, payable to the Halo for Freedom Foundation and drop your check off at the BHA, or mail to the Bald Head Association, PO Box 3030, Bald Head Island, NC 28461. Kevin has scored a deal on a terrific Pinot Noir - EnRoute Winery's Les Pommiers 2015. This finely crafted wine from the Russian River Valley of Sonoma County boasts a 92 point rating from Wine Spectator, and sells nationally at an average price of $58/btl. It's our first (and perhaps our only) shipment of this allocated wine, and we received only four 6-packs - all of which is on display by the meat counter. We're offering this at $35/btl, with no case discounts due to the limited supply, but we'll hold a bottle for you if you're off the island at present. Just reply to this email with your phone number and I'll have Kevin or Karen call you for your credit card number. The next Howl at the Moon Sunset/Moonrise Party takes place on Sunday, April 29, and is generously sponsored by the Hammocks! We'll gather as usual at Beach Access 39 from 6:30 - 8:30pm. Chef Marc will be bringing a huge pot of his famous soup, and Peter McArthur will be playing the ancient Celtic melodies on his bagpipes as the sun descends and the moon rises from the depths of the Atlantic. BYOB and bring an appetizer to share. The sun will set at 7:54pm, preceeded by the full moon rising at 7:40pm. The next Friends of Music concert will take place on May 4th at 7:30pm at the Village Chapel, and features the Wilmington Girl's Choir. The ensemble totals 50 girls ranging from age 12 - 18, and they'll be filling the chapel with beautiful melodies! Attendance is free of charge and open to the public, thanks to the generosity of many friends of music. If you'd like to become a friend of music, please send your contribution to Bob Daffer, PO Box 569, Fulton, MD 20759. As the dawn breaks, look for a brilliantly sunny & crisp spring day, with a steady northeasterly breeze becoming softer in the afternoon while keeping our daytime highs in the upper 50's. We'll drop to the mid 40's overnight, and warm to the low 60's tomorrow, with clear sunny skies and light northeasterly breezes. Ditto for Sunday, with highs in the low 60's and a few clouds moving in toward the afternoon.
