Thursday Specials at the Maritime Market - 5/18

Good morning Fellow Islanders! It's 74 degrees on the front porch this morning, and the dunes are alive with nature's symphony of sounds. The South Beach surf provides the percussion, with the breeze keeping count and the birds singing their hearts out - mingling the chorus with a solo here and there. It's a stark contrast to the sounds of winter - mostly devoid of the birdsongs and leaving only the wind and the waves to help contemplate the day. Temperatures will hold steady in the mid 70's, amidst clear & sunny skies with light southerly breezes. Tomorrow we'll see slightly warmer temperatures with lower humidity and more gusty breezes. For the weekend - mostly sunny skies with moderate breezes and highs near 80. Low tide will occur around 7:15 this morning. High tide will peak at about 1:30 this afternoon, and low tide returns around 7:15 this evening. For Breakfast this morning, Chef Marc is preparing a South of the Border omelette loaded with bacon, jalapeno's, salsa & sour cream, with a side of our creamy stone ground grits for just $6.95. For lunch today, Marc is featuring a savory beef & pork Cuban stew with beans, carrots, onions, and peppers for only $8.95. Thursday's hot bar theme is "Mexican!" You can also order all of the regular menu items at [1]w[2]ww.maritimetogo.com, and those items will be ready by the time you arrive. If you're a fan of big Napa reds (cabernet or cab-based Bordeaux style blends), then you're going to go nuts over our next wine deal, and Kudos to Kevin for once again chasing down and turning the screws on our distributor for this one. If you're familiar with Duckhorn wines, you'll know about their flagship Napa Valley cabs, along with their entry-level wines under their Decoy label. They also make a terrific Bordeaux blend under the "Paraduxx" label - it's one that we don't often get, but when we do, it's priced in the mid $40 range. The 2014 Paraduxx red blend just achieved an astonishing 93 point rating from James Suckling. If you don't recognize the name, James was the lead wine critic at Wine Spectator magazine since 1982, and his beat was Bordeaux, Napa, and Italy. He left the magazine a few years ago and started his own subscription-based rating service, and I trust his ratings equally to Robert Parker's. The lowest price in the USA is $36.99 (at Binnie's Beverage Depot in Skokie, IL), but for a very limited time, you can add this one to your island stash for only $33.29/btl. and if you purchase a full case, you'll save an extra 10%, which brings the bottle price below $30 ($29.96 to be exact :). The wine is in the Market now, so if you're on the island, just drop by. Otherwise, reply to this email with your phone number and I'll have Kevin call you for a CC number - we'll hold the wine for you until you return to the island. Drop by the Forest Pavilion this weekend! The Nye's Cream shop is open, and we'll have the torches and firepits lit up at night, so come and enjoy cocktails & appetizers, or step inside and enjoy a wonderful low-key dinner with your friends & family. The Market is open until 9pm on Friday/Saturday this weekend. All three of our PGA Tour pros are playing this weekend! Grayson Murray will be teeing it up at 1:20 this afternoon at the AT&T Byron Nelson Classic in Texas, and you can catch the early action on the Golf Channel from 4-7pm, and on CBS this weekend. Chase Parker and Chris Worrell are both at the Web.com Tour's BMW Charity Pro-Am, and you can see highlights on the Golf Channel from 7-9pm nightly this weekend. You can't miss these guys - they're all wearing our performance polos from Bald Head Blues :) Memorial weekend is packed with events and activities, and the entire schedule of activities is now posted at [3]www.baldheadisland.com/events. Tuesday Specials at the Maritime Market - 5/16

Good morning Fellow Islanders! It's 71 degrees on the front porch this morning, and the dawn is breaking earlier & earlier each day as we creep toward the summer solstice. The chorus of birds has now been joined by a few cicadas & crickets for the morning songs. The winds are light, the seas are calm, and the surf is quiet. Our week of perfect spring weather continues today, with sunny skies, light southwesterly breezes, and temperatures in the upper 70's. Ditto for tomorrow & through the weekend, with temperatures inching up toward the 80's, and no rain in the forecast. Low tide is now upon us. High tide will peak around 11:45 this morning, and low tide returns at about 5:30 this afternoon. For Breakfast this morning, Chef Marc is preparing a decadent Italian omelette with pancetta, goat cheese & sun-dried tomatoes for just $7.95. For lunch today, Marc is featuring a hearty shrimp ravioli plate with a slice of hot buttered garlic bread for only $9.95. Tuesday's hot bar theme is "Italian"! You can also order all of the regular menu items at [1]w[2]ww.maritimetogo.com, and those items will be ready by the time you arrive. If you're a fan of big Napa reds (cabernet or cab-based Bordeaux style blends), then you're going to go nuts over our next wine deal. Our daily subscribers are getting first dibs once again (the weekly folks will get their chance tomorrow - if any is still available :), and Kudos to Kevin for once again chasing down and turning the screws on our distributor for this one. If you're familiar with Duckhorn wines, you'll know about their flagship Napa Valley cabs, along with their entry-level wines under their Decoy label. They also make a terrific Bordeaux blend under the "Paraduxx" label - it's one that we don't often have, but when we do, it's priced in the mid $40 range. The Friends of Music's annual Gala Cruise is all booked, with a waiting list in the dozens now. The cruise gets underway this coming Saturday, May 20, and departing the marina at 5pm, with music by Mark Daffer & Mike O'Donnell. There is no cost to attend (thanks to the generosity of many donors & sponsors of the Friends of Music), but you're asked to bring your favorite bottle of wine to share (bring the good stuff :) If you'd like your name added to the waiting list, please contact Jeff Hobbs via email at [3]blkswnhall@aol.com. The Bald Head island Fishing Rodeo returns this weekend, May 18-20, and it's not too late to sign up. The Rodeo is a deep sea fishing event, and boats will be heading out to the gulf stream (about 60 miles out) looking for Mahi, wahoo, tuna, sailfish, and blue marlin. I've fished in the rodeo several times and if you've never been deep sea fishing, it's a load of fun. Prizes are substantial, and the multi-day tourney begins and ends at the BHI Marina. You'll need a sea-worthy boat, and charters & captains are available through many sources. For more information, please contact John Munroe at 471-4005 or visit [4]www.bhirodeo.com. On Saturday, May 27 (Memorial Weekend), the Market will host another edition of our famous Nye's Cream Sandwich eating contest :) There are only two age groups, and each group is limited to 25 attendees, so if you, or someone you know would like to enter, you must [5]register on-line and agree to the rules. Good morning Fellow Islanders! It's a crisp 61 degrees on the front porch this morning, with the twilight of dawn quickly washing away a sky full of stars, with the waning moon high in the sky and a cool north breeze rustling the nearby palms. Friday Specials at the Maritime Market - 5/12

Good morning Fellow Islanders! It's 70 degrees on the front porch this morning, and the waning moon is dancing in and out of the pre-dawn cloud cover - casting a brilliant glow from behind that outlines the clouds in a silvery veil. A light northerly breeze is washing over the island - holding the seas still & quiet along South Beach. As the dawn breaks, look for a partly sunny day, with variable but light breezes and a high in the mid 70's. We'll drop to the mid 60's overnight, as a bit of unsettled weather sneaks in, bringing a decent chance of rain tomorrow. Skies will clear again on Sunday, with a beautifully crisp day of abundant sunshine, light breezes, mild temperatures and low humidity. High tide will peak around 9:30 this morning, and low tide will occur at about 3:15 this afternoon. For breakfast this morning, Chef Marc is preparing a hearty house-made corned beef hash, topped with two eggs over easy and drizzled with a light hollandaise sauce for only $6.95. For lunch today, Marc is preparing a delicious Oyster Po boy - loaded with fried local oysters, and drizzled with remoulade and served with crispy french fries for just $9.95. In addition, Marc is featuring a superb appetizer portion of homemade conch fritters for only $6.95. Friday's hot bar theme is "Seafood'"! You can also order all of the regular menu items at [1]w[2]ww.maritimetogo.com, and those items will be ready by the time you arrive. We've blown through the first 15 cases of our Mother's Day wine deal, but Kevin was able to secure a few more cases yesterday (the last of a tiny production). Chateau Castel Des Maures is a superb "true" rose' from the Cotes de Provence region of France, and a tiny vineyard (only 4 1/2 acres) that produces outstanding rose's from a blend of 50% grenache and 50% cinsault. The wine pairs perfectly with our local seafood, but can also stand up to more challenging dishes (a salad with balsamic vinegar, for example), and is best served chilled. It's a perfect beach wine, and at $15.99, is a bargain for a true French rose'. It's even better when Kevin scores a deal, so for a very limited time, you can add this to your island stash for only $10.99/btl, and if you buy a full case, you'll save another 10% - bringing the per-bottle price down to $9.99. Stock up for the summer season, and if you're off island at present, then reply to this email with your phone number and I'll have Kevin call you for a CC number - we'll hold the wine for you until you return to the island. Weekly Specials at the Maritime Market - 5/10

Good morning Fellow Islanders! It's 69 degrees on the front porch this morning, with a nearly full golden moon lighting up the western sky - settling gracefully into the western horizon while a light ocean breeze washes over the glowing dunescape. The morning birdsongs are echoing through the palms as the South Beach surf settles gently onto the nearby shore. We have a beautiful spring day ahead, with temperatures climbing to the mid 70's by the afternoon, with calm winds, flat seas and clear skies - a perfect day for launching the skiff or playing a round of golf - or doing just about anything outside. We'll drop to the low 70's overnight, and warm to the mid 70's again tomorrow, with partly sunny skies and light breezes. Ditto for Friday, with southerly breezes. We'll see a slight chance of rain on Saturday, with clear skies returning on Sunday. High tide will peak around 8 this morning. Low tide will a about 2 this afternoon, and high tide returns just after sunset this evening. For breakfast this morning, Chef Marc is preparing a spicy andouille sausage omelette, loaded with cheddar cheese, along with sauteed mushrooms & scallions, and garnished with sauce picante and served with a side of roasted potatoes - all for only $8.95. For lunch today, Marc is featuring your choice of either cornmeal-fried shrimp or chicken etouffe -both served with a side of Louisiana dirty rice and southern baked beans for just $10.95. Wednesday's hot bar theme is "home cookin'"! You can also order all of the regular menu items at [1]w[2]ww.maritimetogo.com, and those items will be ready by the time you arrive. The next Howl at the Moon Sunset/Moonrise Beach Party happens tonight, and is sponsored by Bald Head Island Limited Real Estate Sales! We'll gather as usual at beach access 39, from 7-9pm, with the ancient melodies of our bagpiper, and the warmth of the bonfire, and the weather should be absolutely perfect for a spectacular moonrise! Chef Marc will be bringing a huge pot of seafood gumbo. BYOB and bring an appetizer to share. Rumor has it that a keg of Stella may also appear, compliments of our sponsors! The sun will set at 8:02pm, preceded by the full moon rising from the Atlantic at 7:54pm. Today is my brother Willie's birthday! He & his wife Natalie purchased "Vehicle Maintenance" from BHI Limited about a year ago, so it's also their one-year anniversary of being island entrepreneurs! The Cary Cart Company showroom is located on Edward Teach Wynd - they're dealers for Club Car, Garia, Atomic, and a number of other manufacturers. They own and operate the rental carts at the Harbor, and they also make customized "tricked-out" carts on the island and in Cary, NC. You'll see their son Zan in the shop or on the road, and their daughter Parker will be on the island for the summer. Parker just turned 16, and Zan just graduated from NC State this past December, so Willie & Natalie have their hands full :) Kevin has scored a terrific Mother's Day wine deal - a superb "true" rose' from the Cotes de Provence region of France. Chateau Castel Des Maures is a tiny vineyard (only 4 1/2 acres) that produces outstanding rose's from a blend of 50% grenache and 50% cinsault. The wine pairs perfectly with our local seafood, but can also stand up to more challenging dishes (a salad with balsamic vinegar, for example), and is best served chilled. It's a perfect beach wine, and at $15.99, is a bargain for a true French rose'. It's even better when Kevin scores a deal, so for a limited time, you can add this to your island stash for only $10.99/btl, and if you buy a full case, you'll save another 10% - bringing the per-bottle price down to $9.99. Stock up for the summer season, and if you're off island at present, then reply to this email with your phone number and I'll have Kevin call you for a CC number - we'll hold the wine for you until you return to the island. The Shoals Club is hosting their Memorial Weekend Coastal Feast Party on Saturday, May 27, from 6-10pm, with live music by Port City Shakedown, and seafood stations scattered across the entire Club property. You'll enjoy everything from grilled oysters, shrimp & grits (with local goat cheese), roasted pork shoulder, gumbo, seviche, shrimp satays, crab claws, ahi tuna, and so much more. It's a great kick-off to the summer season, and reservations are required. Adults are $60 plus tax & 20% gratuity, young adults (13-20) are $35++, children 12 & under are $20++, and under 5 are free. Call the Shoals Club at 910-454-4850. The Market will host its next "Side Porch Steamer" event on the Forest Pavilion on Sunday evening, May 28, and registration is now open at [3]http://maritimemarketbhi.com/side-porch-steamer.aspx. We'll be steaming up a mess of mussels and littleneck clams, served with two delicate & delicious broths, with crusty bread, along with steamed old bay shrimp, barbecued chicken, and a load of your favorite sides. Mark Daffer will be returning to serenade the crowd, and we'll light up the tiki torches & fire pits as well :) Adults are only $29.95 plus tax/gratuity, and children under 12 are only $14.95 plus tax/gratuity. We'll also have beer & wine available by the glass, or you can step inside the Market and grab your own bottle or six-pack. This event will sell out quickly, so don't delay!
